Facilities and Coaching

During the 2014-2015 season we saw some exciting developments become reality. In September 2014 the new £1million boathouse opened, giving us more storage for boats, a fantastic facility to land train, almost 4km of Canal to train on as well as it being just a short cycle from university – no more long commutes to York.

On top of the state of the art facilities at the new boathouse we have access to one of the premier university gyms in the country. The Edge has a large fitness suite in which our rowers can train but we also have access to a room booked out specifically for squad erg sessions and access to the Strength & Conditioning suite, with sessions led by the universities coaches. As a performance gryphon sport we also benefit from discounted physio and free sports massage.

In January 2015 we saw the arrival of Dan Grant, taking on the new role of Head of Rowing. Dan leads the coaching for the club full time across all the squads and is supported by the clubs many volunteer coaches, there are also 3 students in the club that are coaching scholars and receive funding towards coaching qualifications and on a mentored pathway.

The club also work in partnership with the union to support it’s Get Out Get Active programme in which recreational rowing takes place in stable boats at Roundhay Park.
